The Best “under $200” Radar Detector! ~ Beltronics V955
While I’ll admit it’s not a Valentine or Passport, at $155 (including shipping & handling) this Beltronics V955 is also less than 1/2 the price!

Paying a lawyer to fight a speeding ticket last time cost me $250+. Pleading guilty as charged on a typical speeding ticket (with a 3 “license points” penalty) in NC can boost insurance premiums 65% for 3 years! In addition, a North Carolina speeding ticket in excess of 15mph over the speed limit can result in license suspension. Saying “I was moving with the flow of traffic” doesn’t seem to help earn a just a “warning”. Side note: driving a bright red BMW convertible just screams “pick me…pick me” to police seeing a group of cars all moving along together. Therefore, $155 is “a real bargain” to help increase awareness of driving speed and improve safety on the roads.

I owned and used a similar Beltronics detector for 3 years and was not stopped even once for speeding during that time. My previous Beltronics detector (V940) did “get sick & died”. However, I still liked it enough to replace it with another.

Good but not great.
Overall not a bad detector. It has good range but falses alot just like Cobras. It doesn’t have a true auto mute feature – it quiets down but never shuts up completely like Cobras and Whistlers. You have to manually press the mute button to get it to stop chirping. And the chirping is ear killing!! It has the most annoying alarm noises out of all the detectors I’ve ever owned. On the other hand, it is very loud and I can hear it over my car stereo even when the music’s turned up pretty loud! The display is very bright for day driving and adjustable when it gets darker out. Other than better range, I like my Cobra 9745 better and my Whistler Pro 78 the best! But hey, for a hundred and a half, I guess it’s worth it. Nah, go with the new Pro 78 SE by Whistler! For the money, the Pro 78se will give performance close to the Escorts for way less money!

Beltronics V955 Radar Detector
You know there’s times when you should save money and go cheap but not on something that will get you out of a ticket. The Beltronics brand is well known and this radar detector is made well. I wish I would have spent more money on a better model. The range on this radar detector is not that great. It’s good on a long straight road but even that sometimes doesn’t help. Buy a newer better model!

American Hawks H.P Basic Metal Detector
I bought the product for my grand children. It is very difficult to calibrate it for use when I am not present.

False advertising
The following claim under “Product Features” is totally false: “Sensitivity: > 8 inch (for a US quarter). It means if the quarter is buried within 8 inches from ground, you can find it.”

Turning the detection knob to maximum sensitivity, I could only detect a quarter in air when the detector was 1″ to 1.5″ away from it. I wanted to use this to find iron property stakes where I live. It did not detect the stakes, even when they were right at the surface! I have since rented two metal detectors that detected the stakes immediately! Unless you plan to give this item to children to find coins you placed on the surface (and they know where to look), it’s totally useless.

Great Product
I bought this product after reading another review that said he found a ring with it. That is exactly what I intended on using it for. Some friends and I were haveing a mud fight in some very thick mud and my ring slipped off. I bought this about two days after that and we found my ring with it even after it had rained. So I am very pleased that I got one of the cheapest products and saved about $180 by findng my ring.
